Team Finishes Third at UBER Regional Penetration Testing Competition

Students standing at uber compA contingent of five Computer Information Systems students and one from CS will advance to the national level of a prestigious cybersecurity competition.

Jordan Wheeler, Brandon Sakamoto, Ben Dillon, Joseph Dillon, Jonathan Maxwell and Joe Nuedleman traveled to Uber’s headquarters in San Francisco early October for the Western Regional Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition where they finished third, accumulating enough competition points to secure a wildcard spot at nationals.

The six members from organization Students with an Interest in the Future of Technology assessed the infrastructure of a managed voting services company, determining cybersecurity vulnerabilities and writing a report that outlined the cybersecurity weaknesses found.

The national competition is scheduled to be held at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York Nov. 3 - 5. The schools participating in the western region included:

CSU Dominguez Hills
