Students meet local civic leaders in Urban Politics and Governance class

As part of Dr. Brady Collins’ Urban Politics and Governance class, students got an opportunity to visit and speak with Pomona civic leaders about economic development strategies. Dr. Collins was able to arrange a few meetings with business leaders in the Downtown Pomona area. This field trip visit was part of a larger examination of governance in the greater Los Angeles area.

Pomona field trip CPP

Los Angeles Is the largest metropolitan region in the United States and one of the most diverse cities in the world. It is a global entertainment hub, containing miles of shoreline, over 200 different spoken language, and one of the highest rates of socio-economic inequality in the country. Governance in this sprawling region is an important and critical topic for the future leaders and students trained by our program.

Pomona Downtown field trip

This course covers the challenge and opportunities of governance in Los Angeles by using Pomona as a critical case study. And while economic development is an important element of governance, Dr. Collins’ class also covers issues like contemporary housing, transportation, and labor issues.
