Brief Description of the Organization: JusticeCorps is committed to expanding access within California's legal system by providing services at numerous court-based self-help centers. Under the guidance of lawyers, JusticeCorps members provide crucial one-on-one assistance and workshop support to individuals navigating the legal system independently. JusticeCorps members give litigants the tools they need to know their alternatives, be heard, and proceed with their case with confidence. Interns will receive extensive training on how to assist self-represented litigants in addressing important legal matters by providing them with legal information (not legal advice). In addition to training that will promote their personal growth, members will receive training in a range of areas to support and improve their service to the public.

AmeriCorps Los Angeles – LA Courts- Self-Help Center

Brief Description of the Organization: Asian Youth Center (AYC) is a community-based non-profit organization whose mission is to empower low- income, immigrant, and at-risk youth of all communities to overcome barriers to success through the provision of culturally and linguistically competent education, employment, and social services. We help youth succeed in school, at work, and in life!

Number of interns each semester: 5-10 students

Process and Requirements for Internship: TB test, Live Scan Background Check, Completion of Volunteer Intake Form, and Commitment to regular volunteer schedule.

Brief Description of the Organization: California Mental Health Connection is an outpatient mental wellness organization serving families, children, adolescents, and adults in Baldwin Park and surrounding communities. Programs include victim assistance, veteran behavioral health services, domestic violence groups, parenting classes, anger management workshops, and court mandated programs.

Brief Description of Organization: Daniel’s Legacy of Hope is a nonprofit organization serving the Montclair community. Its mission is to assist low-income community members who are facing food and housing insecurities by distributing food and providing housing resources.

Brief Description of Organization: The mission of the VA Office of Suicide Prevention is to reduce suicide risk among veterans through prevention strategies, crisis intervention, and evidence-based practices while promoting ethical, trauma-informed, and veteran-centered care. The agency’s purpose is to prevent suicide among veterans by identifying risk factors, responding to crises, and supporting mental health and public health initiatives focused on veteran well-being. Student interns observe and assist with suicide risk assessments, gain exposure to crisis line response procedures, monitor high-risk flagged veterans, participate in supervision and case discussions, and apply ethical, trauma-informed principles in a professional setting.

Brief Description of Organization: Higher Ground Youth and Family Services provides services to under-resourced Orange County communities. The intent is to uplift, inspire, and empower youth and families by expanding purpose and possibilities, fostering resilience, building meaningful connections, and creating foundations for lasting success. Services offered include: group counseling, food pantry, ESL programming, adult education workshops, mental health services, and youth mentorship.

Brief Description of Organization: Just Us 4 Youth (JU4Y) Safe Passages program is a mentorship program for the Pomona Community that focuses on helping middle school and high school students transform into leaders and scholars. The purpose is to help students build healthy, long lasting, and meaningful relationships.

Brief Description of Organization: Lopez Urban Farm provides the space for the Pomona Community to access locally grown food, foster education and community engagement, and cultivate green spaces open to all. In partnership with PUSD and community members, LUF offers a food pantry and a bodega that distributes clothes, shoes, diapers, and hygiene products to people in need.

Brief Description of Organization: Mission Hospice provides physical and emotional support to hospice patients. The team is composed of diverse medical professionals and caring volunteers offering companionship while ensuring that patients are treated with dignity.

Brief Description of Organization: The mission of NFYI is to empower current and former foster youth, their families, and communities to use their lived experiences to bring about systemic policy changes in the child welfare system nationwide. The vision of the National Foster Youth Institute is a transformed child welfare system that functions as a community of support centered on child well-being and lived experiences. NFYI serves current and former foster youth between the ages of 18 and 30.

Brief Description of Organization: Neighborhood Homework House is a community organization that provides services for Azusa Unified School District students and their families. The purpose is to increase academic support in a safe environment that is conducive to pursuing and encouraging students to pursue higher education. Interns support organizational activities and provide mentorship, crisis intervention, behavior redirection, and facilitate social emotional learning activities.

The purpose is to help impacted individuals find their voice, heal from trauma, and find community.

Brief Description of Organization: Reviviscence Clinical Services is a private practice psychotherapy office serving the West Covina community that provides a safe and supportive place where clients can work through personal challenges like stress, relationship issues, trauma, and loss. The focus is to help clients build resilience, improve communication, set healthy boundaries, and regain self-control in their lives.  

Brief Description of Organization: The San Diego County Alternate Public Defender's Office protects the rights, liberties, and dignity of all persons in San Diego County and maintain the integrity and fairness of the American Justice System by providing the finest legal representation in the cases entrusted to us. The purpose is to protect the constitutional rights of individuals accused of crimes by providing legal defense to people who are financially unable to hire a lawyer. Student interns observe court proceedings, assist attorneys or investigators, conduct legal research. Interns are expected to maintain confidentiality, follow ethical standards, demonstrate professionalism, and engage in reflective learning.

Brief Description of Organization: Thaddeus Resource Center’s mission is to serve individuals and families who are experiencing hardship by providing support, resources, and guidance. The focus is to help people regain stability in their lives by providing services with compassion, dignity, and respect. The population served is diverse and many are facing multiple life stressors, including low-income individuals, single-parents, survivors of domestic violence, people with mental illness, and people experiencing grief.
