Sociology Department Peer Mentor Program

The Peer Mentor (PM) program in the Sociology Department is a high-impact practice (HIP) program geared to creating an environment where mentorship occurs in a learning community.

We see ourselves as an Academic Community Committed to Excellence and Student Success (ACCESS). First-year freshmen and transfer students are immediately directed to the vast resources and opportunities available in the Sociology Department and at Cal Poly Pomona University.

We see peer mentors and faculty advisors working together to give our students a unique perspective of living, learning, and being engaged in the Cal Poly Pomona community through shared educational experiences.

Sign up for our Mentorship and Peer Support (MAPS) Program
Through MAPS, students are paired with a Sociology Peer Mentor who can provide support with
  • registration,
  • time management,
  • study habits,
  • campus and department resources,
  • extracurricular involvement, and
  • navigating student life at CPP,
  • students can also meet individually with their mentor and contact them with questions throughout the semester

Students may sign up at any time throughout the semester using the MAPS registration form.

For more information, contact Faculty Advisor Dr. Kathryn Daniels at kdaniels@cpp.edu or connect directly with the peer mentors on Instagram @CPPPeerMentors.
