Program Overview

Cal Poly Pomona's Online Master of Interior Architecture is ranked #8 nationally by Design Intelligence and holds CIDA accreditation — the standard recognized by interior design employers and licensing bodies. The program is 100% online with live studio critiques, a cohort model, and a capstone jury. Two kinds of students enroll: working designers who need the terminal credential, and career changers who are making a deliberate move into professional design practice. Both graduate with the same credentials, the same portfolio standards, and the same professional authority.

Credentialing Path

You are already designing. You work in interior design, architecture, or a related field. You have a portfolio. You need the terminal credential to access commercial projects, advance to principal-level roles, and be taken seriously at the level you have already reached. The CIDA-accredited MIA from a DesignIntelligence Top-10 program is the credential that opens those doors.

Career Change Path

Design has always been the thing. You built a career in another field and have never stopped thinking about space, environment, and how the built world affects people. The MIA is built for this transition. Career-change applicants with portfolios from adjacent fields — graphic design, real estate, event design, or personal projects — are welcome. Talk to Irma Ramirez before you assume your background does not qualify.
