Toronto Field Naturalists Spotlight MLA Student's Project

How would you a landscape architect describe their favorite place? MLA student Adrian Tenney revisited a beloved hometown haunt, the Cedarvale Ravine in York, Toronto, for Fall 2018's LA 5771 (Landscape Awareness and Assessment) taught by lecturer Claire Latane. Tenney's illustrated analysis caught the attention of Toronto Field Naturalists, a non-profit member organization of the Ontario Nature province-wide network of conservation groups. Her full report was published in a Jan. 10 "This Place" column.
Equal parts personal and technical, Tenney's analysis of the site's includes examinations of its geomorphology, hydrology, flora and fauna; and the impact of surrounding urban development. Nestled inside Cedarvale Park, the ravine includes wetlands and the young regrowth forest -- one of many renaturalization projects in an area that was clearcut in the 1970s for construction of the Spadina Expressway.
