Purpose: The Motor Development Clinic (MDC) offers a hands-on, service-learning experience for students pursuing careers in pediatric motor skill development, physical therapy, kinesiology, or education. Through direct work with children ages 3–12 experiencing gross and fine motor challenges, students will contribute to meaningful clinical programming that enhances physical literacy and supports inclusive health outcomes in the community.

Key Objectives:

• Support motor development in children through structured, guided physical activities
• Build student competencies in assessment, planning, and individualized instruction
• Foster cultural sensitivity and awareness of health disparities
• Strengthen communication and collaboration with children, families, and professionals
• Reflect on learning to inform future academic and professional goals

Tasks & Deliverables:

• Clinical Support: Engage with children in motor skill development activities under the supervision of faculty and licensed professionals
• Assessment & Instruction: Assist with goal setting, progress tracking, and adapting activities to meet individual developmental needs
• Reflective Practice: Participate in guided reflections and discussions connecting coursework to clinical experience

Purpose: This micro-internship provides students with a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the planning and execution of Alumni Night 2026, a large-scale event hosted by the Communication Department at Cal Poly Pomona. Alumni Night is a longstanding departmental tradition that brings together students, faculty, staff, and alumni for an evening of professional networking, scholarship recognition, and discussions on emerging topics in the communication field.

Through this project, students will gain practical experience in event planning, collaboration, and professional communication while supporting a high-impact campus event.

Key Objectives:

• Contribute to the planning and coordination of a large-scale alumni engagement event.

• Apply communication, organization, and project management skills in a real-world setting.

• Strengthen collaboration through work within specialized planning committees.

• Support professional networking opportunities between students and alumni.

• Reflect on event planning strategies and communication practices.

Tasks & Deliverables:

• Event Planning: Participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of Alumni Night 2026.

• Committee Collaboration: Work within one of five planning committees—Speakers & Programs, Hospitality, Operations, Publicity/Website, or Budget/Fundraising—to support specific aspects of the event.

• Project Coordination: Assist with planning logistics, communications, and coordination with stakeholders to ensure successful event execution.

• Final Deliverables: Contribute to the successful delivery of Alumni Night 2026 and reflect on lessons learned through participation in the event planning process.

Purpose: This micro-internship provides students with the opportunity to support outreach and marketing efforts for the Arabian Horse Center at Cal Poly Pomona. Students will help promote the center’s programs and events, including the Sunday Horseshows, while building meaningful connections with visitors and the campus community. 

Key Objectives:

• Increase awareness of the Arabian Horse Center and its programs.

• Support outreach and marketing initiatives for upcoming events.

• Strengthen communication and collaboration through project-based work.

• Develop creative strategies to engage campus and community audiences.

Tasks & Deliverables:

• Event Promotion: Assist with planning and promoting the Arabian Horse Center Sunday Horseshows.

Purpose: This micro-internship provides students with hands-on experience supporting the installation and setup of a high-efficiency plug production system in an 8,000 ft² greenhouse at Cal Poly Pomona’s Agriscapes. The project will help produce seedlings for Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, contributing to community food-access programs while giving students practical experience in controlled-environment agriculture.

Key Objectives:

• Develop workforce-ready skills in controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) and greenhouse production.

• Install and configure the infrastructure needed for large-scale plug propagation.

• Support the development of an efficient seedling production workflow.

• Collaborate in student teams to complete installation tasks safely and effectively.

Tasks & Deliverables:

• Greenhouse Setup: Assist with assembling and positioning plug benches and organizing greenhouse work zones.

• Irrigation & Automation: Install and test irrigation components, including drip lines, misting systems, valves, and programmable controllers.

• Environmental Systems: Support the installation of heat mats, lighting, and environmental monitoring equipment.

• Production Workflow: Help set up seeding stations, organize materials, and participate in initial plug sowing for system testing.

• Final Deliverables: Contribute to system installation and help document workflows and operational guidelines for Agriscapes staff.

Key Objectives:

• Apply concepts of environmental justice, sustainability, and political ecology to real-world community projects.

• Support environmental restoration and regenerative urban farming initiatives.

• Strengthen collaboration and research skills through community partnerships.

• Connect global environmental challenges to local solutions through applied service-learning.

Tasks & Deliverables:

Students will analyze existing marketing efforts and collaborate on student-led campaigns designed to encourage peers to complete career milestones and build confidence in the job search process.

Key Objectives:

• Evaluate current marketing communications and engagement data related to Big Interview.

• Develop creative strategies to increase student participation in career readiness activities.

• Strengthen marketing, research, and campaign development skills.

• Support campus-wide efforts to improve career preparedness and job placement outcomes.
