About the Program

Foster inclusive learning environments where every child can succeed. Through a mix of liberal studies and special education, you will learn how to support children with diverse needs. In the ITEP Extensive Support option, you will take ten core liberal studies courses, then add to your base knowledge with classes in special education and clinical practice in an extensive support classroom.

The Polytechnic Experience

With a focus on equity, service learning, and clinical experience, you’ll be prepared to meet the needs of children with disabilities and earn both your Liberal Studies degree and Special Education credential in four years.

Cal Poly Pomona’s Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) Education Specialist: Extensive Support Needs option in the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies focuses on special education for students with moderate to severe support needs. This ITEP pathway combines the Liberal Studies degree with a preliminary special education credential, preparing students for specialized teaching roles. The curriculum includes 10 core Liberal Studies courses and targeted coursework for handling extensive support needs. The program’s demanding schedule, including summer terms and full-semester coursework, supports intensive learning and professional preparation in the field of special education.
