Cal Poly Pomona Pet Expo & Spa Returns

Pumba the Pig at the 2016 Pet Expo

The Department of Animal & Veterinary Sciences will celebrate National Pet Week by holding a pet expo and pet spa day/vaccine clinic.

The second PolyPetExpo will be held Tuesday, May 9, on the Quad. The expo will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include police dog demonstrations, agriculture sniffer dog demonstrations, various pet-related booths and Pumba the Pig.

As part of the expo, the department is holding a "Kiss the Pig" contest. Donate money to buy medication for Cal Poly Pomona students to administer to stray dogs in Thailand this summer. Donations can be made on behalf of three candidates: Staff Council President Sarah Calderon; Chemistry Professor Laurie Starkey; or Human Nutrition & Food Science Professor Gabriel Davidov-Pardo. The "winner" will kiss Pumba the Pig at 12:30 p.m. Ballot stuffing is encouraged!

The department is also holding an Instagram contest for the best event or pet photo. The hashtag is #polypetexpo17, with the winning photographer receiving $25 in Bronco Bucks.

On Saturday, May 13, AVS will hold its second annual Pet Spa Day and low-cost vaccine clinic.

Faculty, staff, and students can bring their dogs and cats for vaccinations and free toenail trims and anal gland expressions. Dogs and cats must be on a leash or in a carrier and are only allowed on campus for the event. Vaccinations are $10 per shot (DHPP, bordatella, and rabies vaccines are available for dogs; FVCRP and rabies for cats).

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Building 67. Space is limited to the first 200 pets. One ticket is required for each pet; RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/poly-pet-spa-day-and-vaccine-clinic-tickets-24713987201
