Alumnus Recognized for Legal Work

Dale Stern

A Huntley College of Agriculture alumnus recently participated as an expert in a roundtable discussion of agribusiness and was also named one of the top lawyers in Sacramento.

Dale Stern (’84, agricultural biology) was one of three experts who took part in a May 11 discussion about the challenges, the opportunities, and the future of the multibillion-dollar agricultural industry.

He also was named one of the top lawyers in 2018 in nonprofit organization practice area by Sacramento Magazine. The publication had previously named him a top lawyer in the governmental and legislative affairs practice area in 2016.

Stern is a partner/co-chair of the food and agriculture practice for Downey Brand law firm. He has more than 25 years of experience representing California’s agricultural industry, serving as a trusted business and legal advisor to major agriculture producers, processors and retailers throughout California.

Among the services he provides to clients include the formation of business entities and nonprofit organizations, drafting legislation and regulations, and representing clients before state regulatory agencies.

He is the chair for the Huntley College of Agriculture‘s Dean’s Advisory Council and the 2010 recipient of the college’s Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award.

Stern also is a member of the American Agricultural Law Association, the California Association of Pest Control Advisors and the American Society of Association Executives.

He earned his law degree from the UC Davis School of Law.
