Financial Resources - Basic Needs Grant

Program Overview

Basic Needs Grants support student success by providing a one-time grant of usually $500 to assist with an unforeseen emergency, crisis or catastrophic event. The grant is not intended to be used for tuition and fees or other school-related expenses such as textbooks, class supplies, parking permits, or laptops/technology.

  • Be an enrolled student during the current academic year. Open university students are not eligible.
  • Be able to demonstrate urgent financial need with supporting documentation.
  • Experience an unforeseen emergency/crisis that impacts student success such as:
    • Displacement/homeless: living in your car, living in motel/hotel, shelter, streets or temporarily staying with friends or family
    • An uninsured medical or dental emergency
    • Victim of a crime or accident
  • Remain committed to working on an action plan with a staff member.
  • Please note: If you are a recipient of the Middle Class Scholarship (MCS), a Case Manager will ask you to speak to Financial Aid as the Basic Needs Grant may affect your financial aid.

No. Students are only eligible to apply for the term they are currently enrolled in.

Summer 2023: If you are not enrolled in the summer term, you are not eligible for the basic needs grant. If you would like to speak with a case manager regarding eligibility, please contact the Care Center.

Grants are processed through Financial Aid. Once Financial Aid disburses your basic needs grant, you should receive your funds within a few business days if you are enrolled in direct deposit with financial aid (depending on your bank, it could be sooner or later).

If you are not enrolled in direct deposit, a check will be mailed to the address you have on file on Bronco Direct.
