Interview with Edgar Olivar

Edgar Olivar Student Spotlight

December 2021

After graduation, my initial plan after graduation was to apply to law school. Now, that I have more knowledge and experience, my perspective has changed. It is crazy how much can change in one semester, meeting amazing people in the industry and at Cal Poly Pomona.

I will be interning at General Motors in the Summer of 2022 for GSP (Global Supply Chain). I will get to see everything in the supply chain process in GM and will get to meet Mary Barra.

My career interest is Supply Chain, so far have no specific area, I have landed both internships in the automotive industry.

I have completed one internship, and I learned a lot. I love the creative freedom that was offered to me, I was allowed to lead and learn from my mistakes. Many of my coworkers were Cal Poly Alumni. I like to call it the Cal Poly Playground.

Advice

My advice would be to achieve your goals BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY! Do not let anything get in the way, change the term, "I want to be", to, "I am going to be." When you face adversity, do what an amazing professor told me, "Just keep swimming." Anything is possible, it just requires a little bit of extra work. Get to know your professors, they are amazing people, and join clubs like OMS. I cannot stress enough how important networking is–it really does go a long way. Lastly, embrace failure because we learn the most when things do not go according to plan.
