61st Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala

The 61st Annual Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala took place on October 21, 2023. Cal Poly Pomona awards exceptional alumni who have made great achievements in their professional field and continuously give back to the university. The College of Education and Integrative Studies awarded, Alumna Dr. Mercedes Gutierrez Ed.D. '15.
Alumna Dr. Mercedes Gutierrez, received her Ed.D. in 2015 in the first cohort of the College of Education and Integrative Studies Education Leadership Dotoral Program. While in the program she learned to gain insight into her feild of work and to be preapred for any challenges. During her three years in the program, she found support and encouragement from family and friends. Dr. Gutierrez is a advid member of the campus community where she gives letures to first-year students and has taught within the doctoral program. She also will soon be joining the Parnterns in Education (PIE) Board. She currently serves at Vice President of Human Resources at Cerritos College. “I want to inspire students in all programs to find motivation within, to find a support system,” she says. “Women of Color have many challenges. They need to know that others have taken the same journey.” Congratulations Dr. Mercedes Gutierrez!
