Dinah Ramirez is the recipient of the Lowell Overton Best Poster Award presented by Dr. Caryn Gerstenberger.

Lindsay Patterson is the recipient of the Service to the Department Award for her outstanding leadership as president of the AKD Honor Society of Sociology. Dr. Erica Morales and Dr. Jack Fong presented the award.
Alexis Rivera is the recipient of the Service to the Department Award for her excellent leadership as president of the Criminology Club. Dr. Melissa Barragan and Dr. Jack Fong presented the award.

14th Lowell Overton Undergraduate Research Symposium Snapshots

Poster Presenter Marisol Gonzales presented her group project on The Relationship between Gender & Conformation to Traditional Gender Roles.

Poster Presenter Dinah Ramirez presented her Honors Thesis Project on The Gender Pay Gap: The Experience of Women Faculty Members at Cal Poly Pomona.

Brenda Anih, Cynthia Mendoza, and Rocio Jazmin Padilla presented their project: The Relationship Between Student Employment Status and Mental Health.

Eric Chan presented his project: Post-Covid Pedagogy: A Student's Meditations on Student Engagement in 2023.

Samantha Hua presented her project “Addressing the Effects of Parental Incarceration.”

CPP Open House: April 15, 2023

The Department of Sociology Peer Mentors introduced the Department to future students at the Open House. Peer Mentors interacted with students and parents and showcased our two majors, Sociology and Criminology, and minors.

Crime Analysis Students interact with the FBI about internship and job opportunities within the agency.

Spring 2023: AKD and PSA

The Pacific Sociological Association (PSA) Annual Meeting met in Bellevue, WA, in Spring 2023. Twelve AKD students attended the PSA Conference. The conference has been an excellent opportunity for students to learn about cutting-edge research in sociology and network with leading scholars in the field.

Dr. Daniels' Peer Mentor class visited the Maker Studio. 
Students made button pins to wear when they do workshops and/or participate in department events.
The Maker Studio is located on the second floor of the Library.
