Alex Madva

His work explores the intersections of social science, ethics, and policy. He co-wrote the forthcoming Somebody Should Do Something: How Anyone Can Help Create Social Change and co-edited An Introduction to Implicit Bias: Knowledge, Justice, and the Social Mind and The Movement for Black Lives: Philosophical Perspectives. He won an NEH writing award for faculty at Hispanic-Serving Institutions to write a book on misinformation and belief in 2025, and collaborates in the production of CCEP’s student-driven podcast.
Rachel Tamar Van

Co-Director

Rachel Tamar Van

Specializing in American merchant capitalism in the late 18th to early 19th centuries with a particular emphasis on family capitalism and Americans in the Pacific. She is author of the forthcoming Family Capital: Yankee Merchant Networks and the Shaping of the Global Economy. She teaches Digital History at CPP, including regular collaboration with the WikiEdu Foundation and supervising student podcasts and documentaries in oral history, family and genealogical history, and more.

Michelle L Dejohnette

Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Studies

Michelle L Dejohnette

Teaching antiracism and equity in early education. Her research also focuses on critical theories and culturally-responsible pedagogy. She will collaborate with students in the College of Education and Integrative Studies to launch a podcast on racial inequities in early childhood education.
Kelly Huh

Chair & Professor of Geography

Kelly Huh

A tropical mountain glaciologist and physical geographer, her research explores climate change, glacier and water-resource dynamics, remote sensing, GIS, and geospatial analysis. She uses satellite imagery, GPS, and drone technology to study environmental changes in regions including Greenland, Antarctica, and the Peruvian Andes.

Assistant Professor of Communication

Dana Marshall

She specializes in organizational communication, focusing her research on policy, regulation, and authority within institutions. She also brings professional industry experience in digital marketing, corporate consulting, and public speaking coaching.

Kimberly Alvarez - Student Fellow 2026

Kimberly Alvarez

Kimberly Alvarez is a General Civil Engineering student pursuing a minor in Leadership and Management, with a strong passion for using her skills to give back to her community. Her eagerness to make a positive impact is what inspired her to become involved as a DHC Fellow. Outside of DHC, you can find her at the gym, studying in the library, or actively involved in academic organizations such as the Construction Engineering Management Association (CEMA).
Shuvashree Basnet - Student Fellow 2026

Shuvashree Basnet

Shuvashree Basnet is a Computer Science major with a minor in Data Science. She worked as a Front-End Developer Intern at UC Irvine during her senior year of high school, which sparked her interest in Human-Computer Interaction, UI/UX Design, and Software Development. Her other interests include game development, AI Ethics, and media literacy. Shuvashree manages websites for clubs that support minorities in tech fields, including sheCodes and Women In Tech, and works as a Data Analyst Assistant.
Sophia Elizabeth Madayag - Student Fellow 2026

Sophia Elizabeth Madayag

As a Cal Poly Pomona English graduate, Sophia Madayag has been actively involved in the campus community through leadership, education, research, and digital media. She has served on the executive board of Sigma Tau Delta, held leadership roles in student organizations, and received the Lillian Wilds Shakespeare Scholarship. Her published research explores gender bias in AI-generated writing feedback, combining her interests in English, education, and emerging technology as she prepares to pursue a master’s degree.

Alexis Yrigoyen - Student Fellow 2026

Alexis Yrigoyen

Alexis Yrigoyen is an Anthropology major with minors in Geology and Psychology who loves finding new ways to study people, places, and the past. Her work combines ethnography, archaeology, and digital methods to investigate how people understand identity, belonging, memory, and cultural heritage. Her experience with GIS, geophysical survey, photography, podcasting, and digital storytelling has shaped her interest in the many ways we can use digital tools to document, interpret, and share research. As a DHC Student Fellow, Alexis hopes to help students and faculty discover what digital humanities can look like in their own work and turn their ideas and research into creative, accessible, and engaging public-facing projects.

The Digital Humanities Consortium is supported by a community of contributors, including transdisciplinary tenure-track and lecturer faculty who serve as affiliates, as well as past faculty and student fellows. Affiliates engage in research, teaching, and co-curricular initiatives, while our fellows have contributed in meaningful ways across many academic years.
