Safety Tips

Use Designated Bike Racks

Avoid theft by utilizing permanent, fixed anchored bike racks located around campus. Refrain from securing your bike to small trees, handrails, posts, or chain-link fences. You can find a map of designated bike rack locations [here](insert link).

Always Lock Your Bike

Whether you are storing your bike in a garage, residence hall room, apartment, or briefly leaving it unattended utilizing a lock is imperative.

Choose a U-Shaped High-Security Lock

Opt for a sturdy U-lock for enhanced protection, as lightweight cable or chain locks may not provide sufficient security and can be easily cut. For added security, consider using both types of locks.

Properly Use the Lock

Maximize security by positioning your bike frame and wheels to occupy as much open space within the U-portion of the lock as possible. A tighter lock-up makes it more challenging for thieves to use a pry bar and open the lock.

Secure Components and Accessories

Pay special attention to components that can be easily removed, such as quick-release wheels or seats. Bike shops offer security devices for added protection.

In the event of bicycle theft on campus, report the incident promptly to the Cal Poly Pomona Police Department at (909) 869-3070.
