RASIM

The Center for Research in Adaptive Systems and Intelligent Manufacturing (RASIM) at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) is led by a diverse team of faculty and staff from Cal Poly Pomona. The team, along with the advisory board, is constituted with institutional capacity building and sustainability as a priority.

RASIM Goals

  1. Advance transformative Research in Science and Engineering

Conduct innovative and interdisciplinary research that advances the state of intelligent and adaptive systems and machines through the integration of robotics, digital twins, AR/VR, human-system integration, cybersecurity, and more. The research will leverage shared cyber-physical infrastructure (e.g. Vy and Tim Li Lab) to develop, integrate, and validate novel technologies, methodologies, and system-level solutions that improve the intelligence, adaptability, efficiency, safety, resilience, and security of systems and machines.

  2. Build and Sustain Institutional Research Capacity

Establish a sustainable research ecosystem that expands RASIM’s capacity to support interdisciplinary research, develop competitive external proposals, foster industry, government, and philanthropic partnerships, and secure diversified funding for continued research, infrastructure, and student research opportunities. RASIM will pursue a minimum of two external proposals each year, for at least 10 external proposals, with annual targets reviewed and adjusted by Center leadership and the Advisory Board based on funding opportunities and Center capacity. The portfolio will intentionally include federal, state, industry, and philanthropic opportunities rather than relying on a single agency or funding mechanism. Strengthen faculty capacity by supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, faculty development, research partnerships, and recruitment in emerging areas relevant to the Center's research mission, including digital twins, artificial intelligence, AR/VR, robotics and automation, cybersecurity, and other related areas.

  3. Develop Highly Impactful Education and Workforce Development Activities

Provide CPP undergraduate and master’s students with sustained research, professional development, and workforce preparation opportunities — including internships, workforce credentials, and summer research exchange programs offered through RASIM and its partners — that create pathways to graduate education and advanced Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers.
