Veterans Resource Center remains Committed - Serving CPP’s Military Affiliated Students during COVID-19

March 19, 2020

On March 19, 2020 Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order to Shelter in Place to protect the health and well-being of California residents and to slow the spread of COVID-19. While students adapted to the changes of studying from home, the Veterans Resource Center remained committed to serving its military affiliated student population remotely. Upon campus closure, the VRC created programing to ensure students are connected by implementing weekly virtual drop-in hours, virtual movie nights and cooking workshops. In addition, the VRC partnered with Congressman Gil Cisneros and Congresswoman Norma Torres to congratulate the graduating class of 2020 with a video reminding them of the importance of giving back to their fellow veteran and dependent students by remaining connected to CPP.

Over the summer, the VRC partnered with Orientation Services to host remote orientation sessions to ensure incoming Fall 2020 students had the necessary information to use their VA educational benefits and to showcase VRC services. During the Fall semester, the VRC hosted a series of virtual career readiness workshops in September to support its annual Future Forward event. Future Forward took place virtually on Oct. 9 and showcased areas of entrepreneurship, employment, education, and veteran resources.

The VRC is ready to service students over the phone, email or via zoom, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. For more information on VRC virtual events contact the VRC at 909-869-6994.
