Veteran Brings Marine Corps Values to Political Post

Jacob Wolak, a political science senior, is a field representative and staff assistant at Congressman Gil Cisneros' office. Wolak was introduced to Cisneros' office when he provided input on legislation that would help student veterans or military dependents use their GI Bill to receive stipends during school breaks.

Vincent Marsala ('17, civil engineering) is the Superintendent at Turner Construction Company and is part of the team managing the construction of SoFi Stadium, which will be home to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers and will be the largest NFL stadium. He also serves in the Marine Corps for four years.

Lisa Diggs ('93, hotel and restaurant management; '08, master's in education, curriculum and instruction)

During her 15 years in the hospitality industry, Diggs served two terms in AmeriCorps to mentor at-risk students. As a result of her experience in teaching struggling students, she returned to her alma mater to study education with the goal of teaching English language learners.

Horses for Heroes:  Student Veterans Find Stress
Reliever in Horse Care

During fall semester, 10 student veterans worked in pairs along graduate assistants to groom and care for a horse. The program included training in equine behavior, horse handling and horse health. CPP Magazine published a featured story on the program and Spectrum News interviewed our students.

VRC Partners with Lockheed Martin for Skunk Works Facility Tour

U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin hosted a facility tour and networking opportunity exclusively for CPP student veterans at the Lockheed Martin Skunks Work Facility in Palmdale, CA on Dec. 16, 2019. CPP student veterans formed networking relationships and showcased their accomplishments with hiring managers face-to-face.

The Race:  Cal Poly Pomona Student Veteran Reaches Dream Job after 17 Years

Demetrious Jarvis is graduating from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in aerospace engineering and will work at Skunk Works - an organization that produces and develops aircraft designs - as a flutter and vibrations engineer, testing for vibrations and stress on airplanes, missiles, rockets and other advanced development projects.

Cal Poly Pomona Students Tour Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum

Cal Poly Pomona students, along with CPP President Soraya M. Coley and her husband Ron, toured the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda on Feb. 7, 2020. The day included learning about President Nixon's life and presidency, going on a guided tour of the museum and seeing artifacts such as moon rocks from an Apollo 11 exhibit.
