W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center Centennial Anniversary
Founded in 1925 by Will Keith Kellogg, the Arabian Horse Ranch—now the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center—began as one person’s bold dream: to pair education with purpose and change lives through the beauty and inspiration of Arabian horses. Kellogg’s vision quickly grew beyond the stables, as his gift of land laid the foundation for Cal Poly Pomona, a university built on access, equity, and action. For a century, the Center has been a gateway to opportunity, where students “become by doing,” gaining hands-on experience in equine care, leadership, and service through immersive programs like Sunday Shows, Foal Watch, and Horses for Heroes.

strides through the years
Fulfilling a Lifelong Dream
W.K. Kellogg purchased 11 horses in March 1925. Realizing he needed a place to keep them, he made plans to build a ranch in California that would also be his winter home. Kellogg commissioned renowned architect Myron Hunt to design the ranch’s property.
Shaping an Arabian Heritage
As construction continued, Kellogg expanded his Arabian herd with horses from local breeders, Diamond Bar, and England’s Crabbet Park Stud. By 1927, the stables and Kellogg Mansion were complete, laying the foundation for the Arabian Horse Center’s legacy.
Kellogg's Vision and Lasting Gift
In 1932, W.K. Kellogg donated 813 acres to California with the promise to continue the breeding program and Sunday Shows. His gift led to the property's transfer to the Kellogg-Voorhis campus and ultimately paved the way for Cal Poly Pomona’s founding in 1949.
Cal Poly Pomona's Emergence
From its beginnings as part of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Pomona evolved into an independent campus in 1966. Today, CPP Stands as a testament to Kellogg's vision- an institution rooted in innovation, education, and the enduring spirit of philanthropy.
