IBM Alumnus Domingo Cavajal Shares Industry Insights with Dr. Fan Wang’s International Exporting Students
April 22, 2026
Students in the International Exporting course at Cal Poly Pomona had the privilege of learning from guest speaker Domingo Carvajal, Vice President of Global Accounts at Omni Logistics and a proud Cal Poly Pomona alumnus. Returning to campus to give back to the IBM community, Mr. Carvajal honored the class by sharing candid insights from his professional journey and the real-world complexities of international exporting. Moving beyond textbook frameworks, he discussed what often goes wrong after firms decide to export, including documentation mistakes that delay shipments, Incoterms misalignment, customs surprises, freight volatility, and geopolitical disruptions. He also explained how large multinational accounts manage global supply chains, highlighting coordination challenges across markets, the balance between standardization and adaptation in logistics, centralized versus regional distribution hubs, and strategies for diversifying risk. Students were deeply engaged throughout the session, and the 75-minute class felt far too short as questions continued until the very end. This is an inspiring example of alumni returning to share their experience and mentor the next generation of global business leaders.
