Nourhan Ateout Reflects on Her Journey to Graduation

My journey to success has not been smooth. High school was difficult for me, and math was always a challenge. It all changed when I applied to Pasadena City College, and a professor showed me that math was enjoyable. Before I knew it, I saw my grades go up. This new-found knowledge gave me hope that anything is possible, and it motivated me to transfer, with the help of my counselor, to Cal Poly Pomona.

Attending Cal Poly Pomona has been an honor and has brought me closer to my dream job of becoming an animal behaviorist. I have made several valuable relationships with other students that I will cherish forever. Who would have known that I would major in psychology - a major that requires an enormous amount of statistics - and end up being something I enjoy! I'm proud of how far I have come, and the obstacles I have faced and conquered. As I reflect on my road to graduation, I see the ripple effect of one person, my professor, making an impact on me and changing my outlook on life for the better.

These past couple leading to our graduation has been very emotional. With every graduation, whether it was high-school or community college, participating in the commencement on campus was my way of closing that chapter and saying goodbye. I don't get to give Cal Poly Pomona a formal goodbye, but I know soon, we will have our graduation the way it was intended it to be.Thank you for allowing me to share my story, accomplishments, and giving the chance to participate in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences' virtual yearbook!
