Microsoft Windows 10 Advisory for Personal Computers

Windows 10 is End of Life

Summary: Microsoft officially ended its general support for the Windows 10 operating system on October 14, 2025.

What does this mean for me? For those with personal computers running Windows 10, the campus strongly recommends users consider the following options:

  • Check your version of Windows OS to be sure it is supported, if it is running Windows 11, no further action is needed.
  • If your computer is running Windows 10, you can check to see if your computer meets the Windows 11 hardware requirements.
  • If your computer meets the Windows 11 hardware requirements, the campus recommends upgrading to Windows 11.
  • If your computer does NOT meet Windows 11 hardware requirements, consider the following options:
    • Recommended: Use a newer computer with a secure and supported operating system.
    • Temporary Option: Enroll in Microsoft’s Extended Security Update (ESU) plan. The ESU plan provides one year of Windows 10 support. However, please note that the ESU requires a Microsoft account and/or a $30 purchase. ESU will expire on October 13, 2026.
