Timely Warnings & Safety Notifications

This Timely Warning Crime Bulletin is being issued on 12/11/2023 in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act, and the purpose is to provide preventative information to the campus community to aid members from becoming the victim of a similar crime. While these notices are primarily an attempt to increase safety awareness, they also serve to dispel myths and rumors regarding campus crimes or incidents.

Clery Crime: Theft of a Motor Vehicle

The University Police Department (UPD) received the following crime information:

On 12/11/2023 UPD received a call at 9:54 a.m. regarding a theft of a motor vehicle near Building 55 (CPP Enterprises). At approximately 9:50 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and drove away. The victim, who had just stepped away momentarily, noticed what was occurring and returned to the vehicle. The victim attempted to intervene but was unsuccessful and was dragged for a short distance.      

 Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is urged to call UPD at 909-869-3070. Anonymous tips can be provided by calling the Anonymous Tip Hotline at 909-869-3399.

Additional Safety Measures:

UPD will provide increased patrols in these areas for added visibility and as a crime deterrent.

How to Stay Safe:

  • Report suspicious behavior or criminal activity immediately to UPD. If you see something, say something!
  • Look out for one another.
  • Ensure windows and doors are secured.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Secure valuables and ensure they are not visible when unattended.
  • In the event of an emergency or to report suspicious activity, first get to a safe place. Contact UPD by calling 909-869-3070, using the Code Blue emergency phones on campus or by calling 9-1-1. If you haven’t already done so, please save UPD’s direct line in your cell phone.
  • Use Cal Poly Pomona’s Safety Escort Service, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including weekends, holidays and breaks. Call 909-869-3070 to arrange for an escort. Escorts will be provided to and from campus buildings, campus parking lots, immediate bus stops and areas immediately adjacent to campus property.

Supportive Services: 

We are here to assist and support you. Victims of crime are strongly encouraged to report the incident to UPD, who will provide information on rights, options and supportive services. Students are also strongly encouraged to seek support from Cal Poly Pomona’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS is a confidential resource) or from the Care Center.

  • Counselors are available 24/7 at 909-869-3220. If you are calling between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., dial 2 when prompted to speak with a live crisis counselor.
  • In person: Building 66, room 116 (Bookstore Building) from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Timely Warning Bulletins are issued in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act and the purpose is to provide preventative information to the campus community to aid members from becoming the victim of a similar crime. UPD may issue other Safety Notifications to inform the community regarding crime or public safety concerns.
