Physics Undergraduates Shine at APS Meeting
April 17, 2025
Several Cal Poly Pomona physics undergraduates recently participated in the American Physical Society (APS) April Meeting that took place between Mar 16–21, 2025 in Anaheim, either showcasing their research, or attended the meeting as observers, gaining valuable exposure to the broader research community. They demonstrated remarkable independence and initiative.
Many students attended the conference on their own, presenting work from either summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) programs or ongoing projects at CPP. Their presence at the national meeting reflected not only their dedication but also a strong sense of ownership over their research efforts.
Some of the student participants include (not an exhausted list): Sophia Holland, Matthew Luna, Nguyen Ho, Olivia Walsh, Justin Chrien, Noah Dobson, Jian Romos.
Nguyen Ho received a Top Presenter award for undergraduates selected by the judges.

While this list may not be comprehensive, it reflects the growing culture of student-led scholarship and active participation in professional communities among CPP physics majors.
“It was incredibly inspiring to see so many of our students navigating the conference experience on their own—presenting, networking, supporting another fellow student, and asking thoughtful questions. Their independence and professionalism stood out,” said one faculty observer.
We commend all the students who took the initiative to attend and present at the APS meeting. Their efforts represent the spirit of inquiry, collaboration, and curiosity that define our department.
