The Learning Resource Center (LRC) promotes student success by providing programs and services that advance students’ critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills.

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), an international tutoring organization. The LRC's CRLA certification process sets an internationally accepted standard of tutor training for the purpose of providing tutors with skills, recognition, and positive reinforcement for successful work.

The Achievement, Retention and Commitment to Higher Education Success (ARCHES) program is a TRIO Student Support Services project funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and is a part of the Disability Resource Center (DRC). ARCHES provides comprehensive support services to its participants in order to facilitate timely graduation, these services include: Supplemental Academic Advising, Peer Tutoring, and Peer Mentoring.  

ARCHES Peer Tutoring runs from 3rd week of instruction through the 15th week of instruction during the regular academic year. ARCHES participants are expected to attend weekly scheduled tutoring appointments for the full 13 weeks of tutoring. Participants are eligible to receive one or two hours of free tutoring per week, per class, each term upon request. 

To be eligible to participate in ARCHES, students must be: an undergraduate who is enrolled or accepted for enrollment at Cal Poly Pomona, registered with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) office, and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Maximizing Engineering Potential (MEP) offers tutoring to all College of Engineering students. Tutoring supports lower-division math, physics, and chemistry classes for all engineering majors and selected upper-division engineering courses. Tutors support more than one subject, including fundamental STEM courses and engineering courses.

The Reading, Advising, & Mentoring Program (RAMP) is a TRIO Student Support Services project funded by the U.S. Department of Education. RAMP provides academic and personal support to participants in persisting at Cal Poly Pomona and graduate in a timely manner. RAMP fosters academic excellence, leadership development, and cultural awareness. RAMP's core services are reading tutorials; supplemental academic, career, and personal advising; and peer mentoring. 

To be eligible to participate in RAMP, students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and be low-income, first-generation college student, or a student with disability at Cal Poly Pomona.

Biology Learning Assistant (Bio-LA) Program

About

The Biology Learning Assistant (Bio-LA) Program is dedicated to helping students succeed and feel like they belong at Cal Poly and in the biology major.

Learning Assistants help facilitate student learning in the classroom and serve as peer-tutors in their dedicated classrooms and in the Biology Learning Center to build their training as future middle and high school biology teachers.

The Biology Learning Assistant (Bio-LA) Program is dedicated to helping students succeed and feel like they belong at Cal Poly and in the biology major. Bio-LAs help facilitate student learning in the classroom and serve as peer-tutors in their dedicated classrooms to build their training as future middle and high school biology teachers. 

In addition, the program aims to recruit and advise future middle and high school biology teachers. 

Bio-LAs work with Dr. Janel Ortiz and support students completing: Foundations Series (Bio 1210, 1220), Non-Majors Biology (Bio 1110), Basic Biology (Non-Majors, focus on science majors), (Bio 1150), Microbiology (Bio 2060), Human Physiology (Bio 2350), Additional non-majors courses and Selected upper-division courses.

Science Educational Enhancement Services (SEES)

SEES has a series of opportunities within the program to help students progress and excel. Some of these opportunities are available to anyone in the College of Science. The Science Educational Enhancement Services (SEES) is a support and engagement program serving historically low socioeconomic, under-represented minority (URM) students in the College of Science. It was established in fall 1987 to increase retention and the number of URM students graduating from CPP with degrees in the sciences and mathematics. The program currently serves over 600 students. 

SEES services include special faculty advisors in each department of the College, a peer mentoring program and faculty-alumni-student mentoring program, paid fellowships for performing research with faculty and more.
