Music Professor Earns Multiple Grammy Nominations

The College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences is proud to announce that Music Professor, Nadia Shpachenko, received multiple nominations for the 58th Grammy Awards for her album “Woman at the New Piano". The album also includes a recording of compositions by Cal Poly Pomona Music Professor, Peter Yates.

Woman at the New PianoShpachenko’s album “Woman at the New Piano” has received three nominations for Best Classical Compendium, Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance by Nadia Shpachenko and Genevieve Feiwen Lee for Tom Flaherty’s “Airdancing for Toy Piano, Piano and Electronics,” and Producer of the Year, Classical for Marina A. Ledin and Victor Ledin.    

The album was also awarded a gold medal in three categories (album, classical pianist, and composition/composer) from the Global Music Awards this past September. Shpachenko recently played selections from the album on Oct. 27 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall’s REDCAT Theater, which kicked off the Piano Spheres Satellite Series.

“Many wonderful musicians were in attendance, and I could feel the interest, attention and enthusiasm during my performances,” she says. “It was amazing to perform for such a packed house and to share the premieres and works from ‘Woman at the New Piano’ with such a great audience, which included so many of my colleagues and students.”

On campus, Shpachenko recently performed a chamber music recital featuring works by Brahms, Dvorak and Missy Mazzoli with Los Angeles Philharmonic members, violinists Vijay Gupta and Jin-Shan Dai, violist Ben Ullery, and cellist Dahae Kim.
