‘Tis the Season - Holiday Fraud Scams
The holiday season brings a significant rise in various fraud scams. Scammers are exploiting the increased online shopping activity during this time, using sophisticated tactics to deceive individuals. The Internet Crime Complaint Center’s (ICS) 2024 report states that non-payment and non-delivery scams cost people more than $785 million and credit card fraud accounted for another $199 million in losses.
The most popular scams include emails impersonating legitimate companies, request for payment or donations via pre-paid gift cards, fake charities, and non-delivery of purchased items. These scams can come via email, text or voice calls.
Prevention Tips
- Do not click links in unexpected or unsolicited emails or text messages. Verify the legitimacy of web sites and email addresses before taking action. Verify using official known contact methods as opposed to using the links with the email or text.
- Be suspicious of requests for your personal information. Do not share personal information in response to unsolicited requests.
- Pause before you pay. Scammers love to provide a sense of urgency to trick us into paying. Never wire money directly. Don’t provide payment using gift cards. Banks will not contact you via email to verify your account information.

If you receive a suspicious email, forward it to suspectemail@cpp.edu.
Think Before You Click: Never provide your BroncoID,BroncoPassword, or authorize any Duo Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) to another person or unknown request. Only you should have access to your account. Important: CPP staff and faculty will never ask you for your Bronco credentials, password, or MFA authorization or to submit this information through email, forms, or websites—any email, even when from a cpp.edu address, asking for this information is likely a phishing attempt.
Use Bronco411 to verify the sender's identity and if the request is appropriate.
If you feel at risk, change your BroncoPassword immediately by using the "Password Reset" button at the bottom of the CPP IT home page.

To take advantage of this discount students must license Adobe Creative Cloud from their BroncoAccount's Account page.
CPP Mailman Email List Service Will Be Decommissioned on November 28, 2025
IT will permanently decommission CPP's Mailman service on November 28, 2025; administrators of Mailman lists should request the creation of an IDM Email Group or a Teams Group.
IDM Email Group: Using this option, you receive a new group email address, manage group membership, and send all members an email by emailing the group address. An IDM Email Group behaves like a Mailman list where you control moderators, membership, and manage communications. Use this method if your preferred communication method is email.
However, membership is limited to cpp.edu email addresses; external email accounts are not eligible.
Microsoft Teams: For those who prefer the flexibility to chat, post updates, or direct message members. Teams can include members without a cpp.edu email address. The caveat is that all communications must use Microsoft Teams.
Submit a ticket to request a new Outlook Email Group or a Microsoft Team, or contact the IT Service Desk.
