CPP Physics and Astronomy Rises in the APS Rankings

December 5, 2025

The American Physical Society (APS) compiles data on undergraduate physics programs based on numbers of degrees awarded per year and student demographics. Once again, Cal Poly Pomona is listed among the top 20 largest programs nationally in awarding bachelor's degrees as the highest physics degree offered by the university.

Here's how our program ranks in 2025, based on the average numbers of degrees awarded over the 3-year period:

#1 nationally in degrees conferred to students from marginalized races/ethnicities, (averaging 15/year)

#2 nationally in total physics B.S. degrees conferred (averaging 31/year)

Also, CPP Physics and Astronomy is the only program at a co-ed, bachelor's-granting university ranked as conferring >3 physics B.S. degrees per year to women from marginalized races/ethnicities.
