Professor Povich Receives Ames Distinguished Research Award

Professor and Physics and Astronomy Department Chair Matthew Povich received the 2025-2026 Ames Distinguished Research Award from the College of Science for his research on star formation. Povich was the lead scientist on the Milky Way project, a citizen science initiative involving over 50,000 participants worldwide. He received a 5-year NSF CAREER award in 2015, the first ever at CPP, and has received over $900k in external research funding.

Dr. Povich will present a talk about his research career at the Ames Award Reception on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
