Les Liaisons Dangereuses is a play that is set at the beginning of the French Revolution and features a pair of jaded aristocrats (Vicomte de Valmont and Marquis de Merteuil) and their cynical plot to seduce and destroy the reputation of a young girl fresh out of the convent. Merteuil is in the process of being dumped by her current lover for Cecile de Volanges (fresh out of the convent). She enlists Valmonte to seduce and debauch Cecile to create a scandal and humiliate her ex-lover Gercort
