Housing Costs and Meal Plans

Overview

The establishment and adjustment of all fees administered by University Housing Services is governed by Executive Order 740 of The California State University.  This executive order can be found at:  http://www.calstate.edu/EO/.

As these fees are specific and apply only to students that live in housing provided by University Housing Services, and do not apply to commuting students or those living in other on-campus housing, Cal Poly Pomona chooses to conduct the required consultation and consideration of housing fee adjustments with the Interhall Council (IHC).  IHC is the resident student government and as such, is the sanctioned voice and leadership for students living on campus in University Housing Services.

The Executive Director of University Housing Services has responsibility for preparing recommendations for housing fee adjustments to the Interhall Council, including all documentation and financial information to support these recommendations.  Consultation with the Interhall Council occurs at two levels:  first with the IHC Executive Leadership, then with the full Council.

After completion of the consultation process with Interhall Council, the recommendation for adjustment of any or all of the housing fees is forwarded by the Executive Director of University Housing Services to the President of Cal Poly Pomona for approval.  A representative of Interhall Council holds a permanent seat on the Campus Fee Advisory Committee and has responsibility for providing information on the consultation process that occurred with that Committee.

The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, the CSU must reserve the right, even after initial payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees, without notice, until the date for a particular semester or quarter has begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, or the Presidents, as appropriate. Changes in mandatory systemwide fees will be made in accordance with the requirements of the Working Families Student Fee Transparency and Accountability Act (Sections 66028 - 66028.6 of the Education Code).

Below are included in Housing Costs:

  • Living Expenses include housing and food based on the room and meal plan contracted. Please note that all residents are required to have a meal plan.
  • All residents are required to have a meal plan
  • Include a refundable $150.00 security deposit for all residents
  • Include a non-refundable administrative fee of $10.00 which is included with second semester fees if a student is not on the full payment plan
  • Include the non-refundable Inter-Hall Council (IHC) $45 fee:
    • The fee is $45.00 for the academic year and $15.00 for the summer session.
    • Membership fees are used for community programming, recreation equipment, and social events.
  • The fee is $45.00 for the academic year and $15.00 for the summer session.  Membership fees are used for community programming, recreation equipment, and social events.
  • All payments made after the due date will be assessed as a $50.00 administrative late charge

Additional Information Regarding Fees Associated With UHS

Food Fee (Meal Plan)

The Board Fee is established by the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, Inc., through their Board of Directors.  While this fee is not governed by Executive Order 740, the same consultation process through the Interhall Council is conducted before the fee is considered for adjustment.

Interhall Council Fee

This fee to residents for programmatic support is established by the Interhall Council in accordance with the By-Laws of the Associated Students, Inc.

Cost of Attendance Elements

Tuition and fees are paid directly to Cal Poly Pomona but are only a part of a student’s education costs.  The overall Cost of Attendance is broadly defined as the average cost to attend Cal Poly Pomona for one academic year, (which consists of the Fall and Spring semesters) and includes additional expenses ranging from transportation to books and course materials.

Here’s a breakdown of the cost of attendance elements you should take into consideration after tuition and fees:

  • Food and Housing
  • Transportation between campus, place of residence, and place of work
  • Books, course materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Personal Expenses
  • Dependent Care Expenses (for those who have one or more dependents)
  • Direct Loan origination fees (for those who borrow a Federal Direct loan)

Visit our Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships website for a full listing of cost of attendance elements, to view our current standard cost of attendance budgets, and to learn about the variety of resources that may help reduce your overall costs:

Cost Tables

The Cost Tables provide a detailed schedule of payments, based on room type (housing), meal plan (food) and payment plan. Fees are posted about two weeks prior to their due dates. Residents are responsible for monitoring their accounts and paying their housing and meal plan fees by the posted deadlines. All charges are posted to BroncoDirect; payments can be made online via BroncoDirect or in person at Student Accounting and Cashiering Services.

Payment Options

All residents are enrolled in the Semester Installment option. If a resident wishes to enroll in the Full Contract payment option, they will need to email housing@cpp.edu requesting this with their full name and ID number.

Fees will be posted once per semester, with 3 installment dates per semester. A $10 administrative fee is added to Spring Semester fees.

This plan is designed for students who wish to pay the full amount of the contract and not have the worries of making payments throughout the year.  Students who choose this option will not have administrative fee added as with the Semester Installment plan.
