Financial Aid and Scholarships

Understanding Unit Maximums

Receiving financial aid (federal, state and institutional) is contingent on you maintaining eligibility to receive financial aid funds. Maintaining eligibility includes completing your program within an established timeframe.

A student is eligible to receive financial aid for a maximum number of overall attempted units for their primary program of study.  This attempted unit maximum is based on the published length of the program; at Cal Poly Pomona, all students must complete their program within 150% of the published length of the program.  This is measured as part of our Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards for Financial Aid Applicants.

In addition to the attempted unit maximum, the State University Grant has an earned unit maximum - based on the published length of a student's primary program of study.

Below is a listing of Degree programs by College.  The published length of each program is provided – as well as the maximum earned units for State University Grant eligibility and the maximum attempted units for overall aid eligibility.

To avoid problems with your eligibility for financial aid expiring before you complete your program, limit changes to your major or switching programs, and work with your Academic Advisor or department to ensure you are taking classes that required for your primary program.

Caution: Students may lose eligibility for certain grants or loans before these unit maximums are reached.  Be sure to review Understanding Aid Program Limits for details on the limits associated with each program.

Financial Aid for Teaching Credential Students is only available for those courses required by the state to receive your Credential.  Aid is not available for prerequisite courses, courses that are suggested as beneficial, or elective courses.  It is also not available for Master's degree courses - unless you have been admitted into a Master's Degree (in which case you'll be packaged as a Master's Degree student).

Following is a listing of the Teaching Credential programs at Cal Poly Pomona.  The published length of the program is provided – as well as the maximum earned units for State University Grant eligibility and the maximum attempted units for overall aid eligibility (SAP Maximum Timeframe).
