Costa Rica 2025

This study abroad addresses misunderstandings around sustainability and misinterpreted knowledge of its application to the hospitality industry. Through exploration of multiple provinces, the Sustainable Development Goals will be used as foundational pillars for understanding and implementing tourism in a responsible manner, where students will increase cultural competence and awareness of global issues throughout Costa Rica, develop knowledge of sustainable practices applied across varied hotel pricing segments (e.g. budget, midscale, luxury, etc.) and will be able to describe the relationships between agriculture, sustainability and hospitality and tourism services, while assessing the environmental, socio-cultural and economic impacts of tourism on various destination communities.
