Lost & Overdue Fines

A library hold may be placed on your university student account for unreturned and lost items and will prevent course registration and diploma issuance.

Lost and overdue fines are cumulative. Total fines from $0.15 to $4.99 will have no affect on your patron or university record and our system does not allow payments for fines under $5.00. However, once fines reach a total of $5.00 or more, your library account will be blocked from borrowing materials. All outstanding fines must be paid prior to checking out or renewing materials.

Fines must be paid in full online by logging in to your library account, or by mail (please see below for instructions) to clear your library account and restore borrowing privileges.

MATERIAL BILLING PROCEDURES

  1. As a COURTESY, the library will send an overdue notice to patrons by e-mail. Patrons are responsible for the date the materials are due.
If a notice is received, please respond by bringing back the overdue item(s) to the Library. Fines will be assessed at the time the materials are returned.
  2. If the borrowed item(s) is not returned within 30 days, the overdue material will move into the replacement billing cycle. A LOST ITEM BILL will be sent that includes
    1. The replacement fee that covers the cost of the item.
    2. A $10.00, $25.00, $100.00, or $1,000.00 (depending on the item borrowed) late fee per item
  3. If a lost billed item is returned, the replacement fee will no longer apply, but late fines will still be assessed.
  4. Failure to pay billed items and overdue charges may result in your account being sent to the State Franchise Tax Board (Cal Poly Pomona Students).
