The master's program in the Huntley College of Agriculture serves a diverse student population pursuing both applied learning and thesis-based degrees in agriculturally related fields.
Upon degree completion, students are equipped to address challenges and critical issues that impact and influence their field of specialization.
Mentoring, training, and resources essential to skill development that promote life-long learning and critical thinking are provided, positioning graduates as leaders in their chosen discipline.
Graduate Program Goals
Upon completion of the master's degree in agricultural science from Cal Poly Pomona, students will be prepared to:
- Identify and propose solutions to problems facing their specified field of interest in agriculture
- Critically evaluate a body of research to identify problems and methodology, statistics, and interpretation of research
- Conduct or interpret research in their chosen field of agriculture and have the ability to utilize or produce new findings that advance and enhance knowledge in their discipline of interest (thesis-based graduates)
- Demonstrate an advanced level of writing and communication skills
Master's Program Options
Master of Science Degree in Applied Nutrition
Earn your master of science degree in applied nutrition (MSAN) in just 12 to 18 months and help others live healthier lives.
This program will provide you with a practice-based degree that prepares you to work as a registered dietitian, community nutritionist, or nutrition scientist in other clinical, industry, and public health settings. You will learn from faculty with years of leadership and research in their professions. You will gain the skills to address challenges and issues facing the nutrition field.
The program offers two different tracks:
- The master’s degree combined with a dietetic internship or Supervised Practice Experience (SPE): This track is for those who are interested in becoming a registered dietitian. You will earn your master’s degree while conducting the supervised practice in your dietetic internship. This program fulfills two-thirds of the requirements to sit for the registered dietitian licensing examination.
- The master’s degree without the dietetic internship: students on this track can complete the program in 12-18 months. Your coursework will include real-world experience and innovative content. You can choose to complete a thesis or research project.
Master of Science Degree in Dietetics (Online)
Program Overview
The Online Master of Science in Dietetics program at Cal Poly Pomona is designed to help students become successful Registered Dietitians/Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RD/RDNs).
This fully online, asynchronous program is offered through Cal Poly Pomona's College of Professional & Global Education.
It provides the flexibility for students with DPD verification statements to continue their education, prior to, or during their postgraduate supervised practice (Dietetic Internship) programs.
This program can also bolster the skills of bachelor’s-prepared, practicing RDs who are seeking a graduate degree to be more competitive in the job market.
