Don’t miss the Science Council’s Meet & Greet event on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at noon in the Bronco Student Center (BSC) Ursa Major. What’s great about this event is that it’s just science clubs so you’re sure to see something that interests you. The event will have food, fun activities, and chances to win awesome prizes. Join us on the University Quad for this event designed for science students and hosted by the Science Council.
The next event you should put on your calendar is the annual Science Carnival scheduled for October 21. Because of its timing close to Halloween there may be some haunting surprises but you can count on food like candy apples, cotton candy, shaved ice, and more. There will be games, prizes and a chance to get a professional caricature drawn.
One thing that the Science Council is doing this year is continuing its commitment to their “Service in Science” initiative. What that means in practical terms is that they will be planning activities with a focus on community service. There will be events to collect donations of food, clothes and school supplies that will be donated to local organizations, like the Poly Pantry and local schools and charitable organizations.
Besides hosting several major events, Science Council oversees the nearly 30 clubs in the college. The 2025-2026 Science Council President is Michelle Navarro. The Vice President is Theneza Ross Metra. “Clubs are a great opportunity to meet people and network, and find out about career options,” Navarro said. Many clubs bring great speakers to campus to share career advice. “Also, science students should explore any clubs that interest them, it doesn’t have to be a club in your major.” She added that many people think of CPP as commuter school, but even if you commute to campus, you can participate in a club and attend events.
For new students: The university doesn’t schedule classes on Tuesday or Thursday from 12-1 p.m. It’s called U-hour and events are often scheduled on those days to allow students to attend.
