A campus with a rich history!
Will Keith Kellogg, generally referred to as W.K. Kellogg was born in 1860. He is best known as the founder of the Kellogg Company, which to this day produces a wide variety of popular breakfast cereals.
Kellogg had a longtime interest in Arabian horse and in 1925, purchased 377 acres (1.5 km2) for $250,000 in Pomona, CA to establish an Arabian horse ranch. The Kellogg Ranch became well known in southern California not only for its horse breeding program but also for its entertaining, weekly horse exhibitions, open to the public and frequently visited by assorted Hollywood celebrities. Following the end of W.W. II, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation was in search of an institution to assume operating control over the Kellogg Ranch property.
On October 13, 1949, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation offered custody of the Ranch to the State of California to expand the southern branch of the California State Polytechnic College. Today, under the terms of the grant deed, Cal Poly Pomona continues the tradition of the Ranch including horse exhibitions open to the public.
Over the years, the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center has thrived, and the two organizations have indeed enjoyed a long-standing relationship.
