Credential Programs

Preliminary Education Specialist Credential

Prerequisites

  • Basic Skills Requirement (Coursework with B or better or CBEST Math and Writing)
  • Subject Matter Competency (Undergraduate degree or CSET
  • Early Field Experience verification (see Program Application Packet)
  • Certificate of Clearance
  • Negative TB test verification
  • Attend a virtual orientation session
  • Program Admissions Packet submitted

Foundation Courses

Candidates may take the following courses prior to admission to the program as juniors, seniors, or ITEP students: 

  • EDU 5010  - Foundations of Teaching & Learning ( 3 units)
  • EDU 5020  - Foundation of Education in a Diverse Society ( 3 units)
  • EDU 5302  - Educating Students with Disabilities in Diverse Settings ( 3 units)
  • EDU 5100  - Introduction to Literacy Instruction ( 3 units)

Students can complete the program in three or four semesters depending on the pathway they choose: 

Additional Requirements

Credential candidates must also:  

  • Pass EDSP CalTPA Cycles 1 & 2
  • Pass the RICA 
  • Have a valid (current) Infant, Child, Adult CPR certification 
  • Have verification completion of the U.S. Constitution requirement if not a CSU graduate
  • Complete the CSU Exit Survey (disseminated during clinical practice)
