Early in the process of defining his mission and programmatic objectives in his work, Stanley Wilsom carefully considered how best to portray African Americans and their cultural duality. His works are a fascinating and complex mixture of traditional art forms and expressions that exist along side of and frequently collide with a markedly diverse population. Thus, while he has always been committed to his work, his clear intent–especially as reflected in this exhibition–is to share and explore a collection of diverse expressions which represent distinctive voices.
