About the Exhibition

With over 100 works spanning the years of 1986 to 2010, this exhibition includes Merrill's impressive large-scale woodcuts from 2004-2010, densely inked color intaglio, and relief prints, plus a selection of intimate Holiday cards printed for friends and family. Merrill investigated with unrelenting energy key themes of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century: psychology, trauma, patriarchy, and war within the framework of a Christian narrative not for religious but for secular purposes. Keenly aware of social and political issues, Merrill's work raises serious questions about the fate of the human race. Merrill was Director/Curator of the Kellogg University Art Gallery at California Polytechnic University, Pomona from 1997 until his death in 2010.
