The Adjacent Possible

The Adjacent Possible
Event Info

The Adjacent Possible Is a live, interactive theater experience. Using music, storytelling, improvisational performance, and technology the audience is transformed into an orchestra. The show culminates in the performance of a piece of music - the first and last ever to take place.

The Adjacent Possible has held over 45 performances with participants from six continents and over 30 countries. It has been covered in LA Times, KCET, Hyperallergic, No Proscenium, and the OC Times among others.

Whereas most art experiences born of the pandemic are simply broadcasts in Zoom, The Adjacent Possible has been designed to take full advantage of the possibilities of a virtual environment. The experience uses stereo audio, thoughtful design, and interactive technology to draw participants into a new and unique immersive landscape. The result is an experience unlike any other; a combination of old-time radio drama, poetic guided meditation, and improvisational high-tech performance. Participants are often attending from all over the world and it is not unusual to have an ensemble from across Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe playing in the same orchestra. Each show is recorded, mastered and published shortly after the event which provides each participant with their own keepsake of their once-in-a-lifetime composition.

It will be scheduled at select times by RSVP and special invitation only. Limited Participation. Dates and Times TBA.

About the Artist

Joshua-Michele Ross is a conceptual and sound-based artist whose work centers on time, ecology, and the restorative power of listening.

Ross is interested in creating experiences that have centrifugal force; bringing us into wider forms of community, centering us in the here and now, and introducing narratives that engender desire, hope, and empathy. Against a visually-dominated world, Ross uses listening as a disarming medium for revelation, enchantment, and increased connection with the more-than-human world.
