Annie Montes
Administrative Support Coordinator II
Department of Computer Science

TELL ME HOW YOU CAME TO WORK AT CPP.

I was working part-time as a preschool teacher and was looking for another part-time job. I was recommended by a family friend to work as a temporary ASA.  The position became a full-time and applied for it.  I was in the chemistry department for five-years then applied as an ASC in Computer Science.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I assist the department in all areas.  From schedule building, purchasing, and assisting faculty and students.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I love my department and the people I work with.  I am privileged to have the flexibility to work with other departments in the college and university. Networking with others is very important to me and every opportunity I get to help others I try my best to do it.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?

I spend a lot of my time with friends and serve at my church in different ministries. I moonlight as a nanny/sitter and work with children as often as I can.

TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW.

I enjoy cooking but don’t do it often. I love to travel. I’ve been told I am traveler not a vacationist.  When I travel, I like to visit local markets and small towns. Immerse myself in different cultures.  I still have a few countries I need to cross off my bucket list.

Instructional Support Technician
Department of Physics and Astronomy

TELL ME HOW YOU CAME TO WORK AT CPP.

I have an M.A. in physics and worked for several years in industry. At the time, I was working in a similar position that was temporary at Cal State Long Beach. When I saw the permanent position at CPP, I applied and was hired.

WHAT DO YOU DO? (What are the primary responsibilities of your job)

There are 80 sections a week and I set up equipment for labs. I maintain equipment and make repairs and modifications to make it last longer. I ensure the daily flow of equipment to students.

Mark is known as a MacGyver who can always make things work and can build whatever is needed.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I used to work in industry in research and fabrication and spent the majority of my time with equipment and very little time with people. Here, I enjoy the people. I like students and faculty. A job isn’t just about money. There are all different kinds of people here and I enjoy that.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?

I keep busy doing things. I make things with 3D printing. I like nature and the outdoors. I read about different subjects, biology, and outer space.

TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW.

I grow orchids. There are hundreds of orchids at my house.
