Tomatozania Returns March 18

February 22, 2023

(Editor's note: The start of the Pepperzania plant sale is postponed until April 29. The rainy weather and overcast skies have delayed the growth of the pepper plant crop.)

Cal Poly Pomona’s annual Tomatozania™ plant sale returns on Saturday, March 18, with more than 200 varieties on sale at the Farm Store Nursery for gardeners and green thumbs.

Available varieties include – but are not limited to – heirlooms, beefsteaks, cherries, paste, and even micro tomato plants! The plants range from those perfect for large to tiny gardens, as well as those that flourish in containers. All are non-GMO.

In addition, the nursery also will have a grand array of spring plants to jump-start your garden, including herbs, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, beans, lettuce, strawberries, and much more!

The nursery’s website has the full list of plants.

The annual tomato sale began at Cal Poly Pomona in 1997 and its reputation has spread throughout the San Gabriel Valley and beyond.

It's the first in a series of plant sales by the nursery this spring. The others are:

  • Saturday, April 1 - Dave Wilson fruit trees in 5- and 15-gallon pots, and berries and grape plants in 5-gallon pots.
  • Saturday, April 29 April 15 - Pepperzania pepper plant sale with more than 150 varieties of peppers, including sweet, specialty, international, hot, and Asian varieties.
  • Saturday, June 10 - The Ultimate Pepper Plant Sale includes more than 60 varieties of super-hot peppers, such as Carolina Reapers, Ghost Peppers, and Trinidad Scorpions.

All of the plants are propagated and grown by Cal Poly Pomona plant science student workers. All proceeds benefit the plant science program and students.

The Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store is at 4102 S. University Drive in Pomona. It is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
