March 14, 2024

A national organization has chosen the Cal Poly Pomona Pre-Veterinary Club as its outstanding club for 2023-24.

The American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association (APVMA) presented club President Esperanza Lopez and Vice President Cynthia Rosenblatt with the honor during at its annual symposium March 8-9 at North Carolina State University.

The club was chosen based on essays the Cal Poly Pomona students submitted describing how the organization supports its members' journey toward veterinary medicine.

APVMA is a national organization of pre-veterinary students that promotes and stimulates interest in the field of veterinary medicine. It consists of more than 85 college and university clubs across the nation.

The annual symposium is always held at a veterinary school in the United States and drew more than 500 people this year. During the event, participating students attend labs and lectures like those they will have in veterinary school.

Thirty Cal Poly Pomona pre-vet students attended the symposium with their advisor, Dr. Kathleen Earle. They had the opportunity to network with veterinary professionals, veterinary school admission representatives, and other pre-vet students at the event.

Three Cal Poly Pomona students are serving on the APVMA National Board this year: Arely Navarro as president, Jazmin Delgado as vice president, and Karen Hung as webmaster.

Navarro took the place of Christine Berry, another Cal Poly Pomona student who served as the 2022-23 APVMA president.

Earle was named the APVMA Advisor of the Year for 2022-23.
