Winter and Spring 2027 Changes
What This Means for You
Beginning with Spring 2027, Winter Session will be included in the Spring term—giving you a more connected Winter–Spring experience and greater access to student support. This change also means that if you’re eligible, you may be considered for financial aid for your Winter Session courses.

- Winter and regular Spring courses will appear together under one Winter–Spring term in BroncoDirect.
- Eligible students may be considered for financial aid for Winter Session.
What’s staying the same
- Winter and regular Spring will remain separate academic sessions.
- Winter courses will still take place during Winter Session.
- Regular Spring courses will still take place during the Spring session.
- Each session will continue to have its own course dates and important deadlines.
When registering or reviewing your schedule, always confirm the session and course dates for each class.
Tips Before You Register
How and when do I register for Winter and Spring?
Registration for Winter and Spring courses will take place during the same registration period, beginning in mid-October. You may enroll in courses during both sessions, subject to registration requirements and unit limits.
Before registering, confirm the session and course dates for each class. Visit the Academic Calendar for registration dates and each session’s add, drop, and withdrawal deadlines.
How could this affect my financial aid?
- Winter and Spring enrollment will be combined when determining enrollment status and financial aid eligibility. If you qualify, your financial aid may be applied toward eligible Winter and Spring charges. Available aid may include federal grants, federal student loans, Cal Grant, Middle Class Scholarship and other state or institutional aid, depending on your eligibility and remaining annual aid limits
- Winter tuition and fees will be included in the Spring Cost of Attendance when determining financial aid eligibility, and eligible aid may be applied to Winter and/or Spring charges.
- Students must meet all applicable federal, state, and institutional requirements, including SAP, degree requirements, and have remaining annual aid eligibility.
- Eligibility varies by program. For example, State University Grant funds cannot be used for courses not charged the state Tuition Fee.
- For any questions about your aid eligibility or SAP status when considering enrolling in Winter Session Courses, contact the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.
Payment Deadlines, Charges, and Refunds
Although Winter Session will be included in the Spring term, Winter and regular Spring will remain separate sessions for tuition, payment and refund purposes. Tuition and fees will be assessed when you register.
The current fee structures will remain unchanged:
- Winter Session tuition and fees will be assessed per unit.
- Regular Spring tuition and fees for undergraduate, graduate and credential students will use the established rates for 0-6 units or more than 6 units.
- Doctoral tuition and fees will be assessed per unit.

Log in to your BroncoDirect Student Center to review your charges, payments, anticipated financial aid and outstanding balance.
When are my Winter and Spring Fees due?
Your payment deadline depends on when you register:
- October 22-December 8, 2026: Winter and/or Spring payment is due December 9, 2026.
- December 9-29, 2026: Winter payment is due when you register.
- December 9, 2026-January 12, 2027: Regular Spring payment is due January 13, 2027.
- January 13-February 5, 2027: Regular Spring payment is due when you register.

Can I enroll in a payment plan?
Yes.There will be one Spring 2027 payment plan. Students taking Winter Session only or enrolled in both Winter and regular Spring may enroll. The plan may be used for eligible Winter and Spring charges.

What happens if I drop a Winter or Spring Class?
Your account may be adjusted based on when you drop the class, the number of units dropped and the applicable session. Refund schedules will generally remain similar to prior terms, but Winter and Spring have separate refund deadlines.
To receive a 100% refund:
- Winter Session: Drop all classes before the session begins on December 27, 2026.
- Regular Spring: Drop all classes before the session begins on January 22, 2027.
Review the Refund Policy and Refund Calendar before changing your enrollment.
I see anticipated financial aid. Do I still need to check my balance?
Yes. Continue reviewing your BroncoDirect account. Your financial aid eligibility and the amount applied to your account may change based on your enrollment and other eligibility requirements. Confirm that any remaining balance is paid by the applicable deadline.

We are making this change to follow federal financial aid rules and CSU academic calendar policy.

Yes, Winter courses will be accelerated. Integrating the terms in BroncoDirect does not change the instructional format or course dates of Winter Session. Students should carefully review the dates associated with each Winter course.
Winter courses will be identified with the Winter Session, while regular Spring courses will be identified with the Spring Regular Academic Session.

Winter and Spring units will be combined when determining your overall Spring enrollment status, including full-time or part-time status.
Winter and Spring have separate unit limits and will not count toward the same maximum unit limit. Students may register for up to 6 units during Winter Session, excluding up to 4 waitlisted units. During the Spring (general) registration period, students may register for up to 16 units, excluding up to 10 waitlisted units. Students who wish to exceed the applicable enrollment limit must follow the established unit-cap petition process.
Yes, provided the Winter course is completed with the grade required for the Spring prerequisite. Because Spring registration may occur before the Winter grade is posted, a prerequisite override or additional review may be necessary in some cases.

Enrollment and grades from both sessions will be considered together when determining academic standing, satisfactory academic progress, and grade forgiveness. The academic session will identify whether each course was taken during Winter or Spring. Winter session grades earned units will be included in your overall spring semester GPA and earned units.
Transcripts: Winter courses will appear as part of the Spring academic term, with the Winter Session designation used to distinguish them from regular Spring courses. They will contribute to the Spring term and cumulative GPA, as applicable.
When will my Winter grades appear? Winter instructors will submit grades after Winter Session ends. Individual Winter course grades should become available after they are submitted and posted, even though the overall Spring term remains in progress.
Each session will have its own add, drop, and withdrawal deadlines. However, dropping or withdrawing from a Winter or Spring course may change the student’s combined Spring enrollment status and could affect financial aid, academic progress, or other benefits.
GPA and Academic Standing: GPA will be updated after Winter Session grades are posted. However, academic standing will no longer be calculated at the end of Winter Session. It will be determined after the conclusion of Spring Session based on your combined Winter and Spring enrollment and grades.
Yes. Your enrollment will continue to be reported to the National Student Clearinghouse. Winter and Spring Session enrollment will be combined and reported as enrollment for the integrated Winter–Spring term.
Students should continue to follow published graduation requirements and deadlines. The Registrar’s Office is reviewing graduation and student-record processes as part of implementation to ensure the new term structure is handled appropriately.
Degrees have not previously been awarded at the end of Winter Session, and degree clearance will continue to begin after the conclusion of Spring term. Students should follow all published graduation requirements and deadlines.
