Campus and Program Impaction

Campus Impaction

Campus Impaction

"Campus Impaction" means that a campus has reached its enrollment capacity for instructional resources and physical support and cannot accommodate all the eligible undergraduate applications it receives. Cal Poly Pomona has established a local admission area for first-time freshmen. In general, applicants from outside the designated local area will be held to a higher admission standard than those received from applicants inside the local area. Impacted majors are held to higher eligibility standards for admission selection.

Program Impaction

Program Impaction pertains to limitations within an academic program (major) and occurs when the number of students seeking admission to a specific program exceeds the program capacity to accommodate them. Applicants applying to non-impacted majors and are CSU eligible will be admitted to the university. Those applying to impacted majors will be held to a higher admission standard based on space availability.

Local Area Admission Preference

Freshmen applicants applying to an impacted major will receive "Local Preference" for admission consideration based on our local area designation. Cal Poly Pomona provides a varying eligibility index bump for local area applicants. In addition, as a part of our commitment to provide access to veterans, Cal Poly Pomona gives "Local Preference" to all veterans regardless of their institution.
